I hope you had the time of your life

As another close friend leaves Shanghai today, it reminds me of my old theory that Shanghai is like a huge hotel: you meet people for a while - by the pool or the coffee shop - spend some time together and then eventually they will check out and move on; and you know you will too....

And I can't even begin to describe the people I have met (wanderers, adventurers, vagabonds, war veterans, cancer fighters, dreamers, devotees, artists, musicians, writers, readers, ones so enthusiastic about life that it is contagious, the right amount of weird, an extra bit of crazy, witty ones, sarcastic ones...from all over the world) and the conversations we have shared - as if each person was a book to be read, and there minds countries to be explored....

And all you will have is a limited amount of time together - maybe you will get a chance to form a deep bond, maybe not; there will be some that won't keep in touch, some will go beyond all gaps to do so; Whatever it is, it is right here. Right Now. So it's important to be sincerely nice, give a little love and live in the moment.

Human brain likes to be ‘aware’. It wants to be able to say ‘Yeah, I know this. I have seen this before.’ Hence, when it perceives something new, it immediately wants to label it based on something it has previously experienced. It wants to know where to ‘file’ this new information - wanting to classify into different boxes which can be pulled from the attic when needed. Now, when the brain doesn’t know what to do with a piece of new information it either files it under the already existing boxes in it or tries to create a new box. I think as we grow up, our ability to create these new boxes keeps diminishing. The Pain of Not Being Seen

Part of a series where I am publishing all the draft that have lived in my compose page for several years, it is time they saw light of day. June 2016 Yesterday, as one of my friends was packing her bags to go back home to Stockholm, our conversation turned towards the question: Do looks matter? From there it took a turn about the pain of not being seen. The only real acceptance I have got in terms of my size has been outside my own country. The lack of care and 'looks' from the Chinese made me more comfortable in  my skin. US is where I actually received, the full be more confident, be more happy about yourself vibe. What do we want from relationships? (Movie review - Her)

A delight to watch as it described several themes and idea in such a simple manner: That we are surrounded by technology but are becoming more and more lonelier - why is it that we find it easier to open up to people far away from us than those sitting nearby.  That people really expect very basic things in a relationship (friends, spouses or any other type) - support and being available; and how hard it can still be for us to offer it without getting our ego in the way. Sometimes listening is just enough.  That love/people do not have to be eternal.. because we grow together but we can also grow apart. This love should encourage us to grow and experience different things. When one evolves differently than the other it would be okay to part.
